The Collect for today
O Lord, raise up, we pray, your power and come among us, and with great might succour us; that whereas, through our sins and wickedness we are grievously hindered in running the race that is set before us, your bountiful grace and mercy may speedily help and deliver us; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, to whom with you and the Holy Spirit, be honour and glory, now and for ever.
The Readings for Today
Psalm 72: 1-7. 18-19. Isaiah 11: 1-10. Romans 15: 4-13. Matthew 3: 1-12.

NEW – BENEFICE HOUSE GROUPS IN ADVENT
Are you interested in House Groups or in growing your own personal discipleship? If so, then you may want to join a group during the Advent season when we will be looking at the new Pilgrim course “Turning to Christ”. We hope to run two groups – one on a Monday evening starting on Monday 17th November and one on a Wednesday evening starting on Wednesday 27th November, each will last for four weeks. Please sign up by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org and letting her know which night you prefer. If you are interested but can’t make either Monday or Wednesday nights, again please let Sue know and we will see what we can do next time around. The two groups will meet at different locations in the benefice and both are likely to start at 7.30. Sue hopes to be inundated with replies!
Lui Diocese Link
As many of you know, Carrie Lewis from Child Okeford spent 2 weeks of August working in Lui, our link Diocese in South Sudan, teaching English to adults. Carrie was very successful in raising sponsorship to fund her trip, and also to pay for the training of teachers, who are much needed in Lui. The majority of teachers working there have no qualifications, whilst the thirst for education is great! Two young men, Charles and Alex, were selected to start a 2 year teacher training course in February 2014 (the start of the academic year in South Sudan). With all the amazing efforts that people in our Deanery have been making to support the link, we are confident of paying the second year fees for Charles and Alex, and also hope to be able to start training two young ladies next year. Thank you to everyone in the Okeford Benefice who has contributed to, and supported, this link but particularly to Carrie for giving up two and a half weeks of her Summer leave to go to Lui.(see more on the Sudan link page)
Please note that the 10.30am Come and Praise Eucharist on Sunday 22nd December has been CANCELLED
Your local Church School has vacancies for Foundation Governor(s). Could this be you or do you know someone who might be suitable and interested, even if they live outside the parish? This is a chance to contribute both to the work and Christian ethos of the School. If you would like to find out more, please speak to Fr Darren in the first instance.
Please note there will be no coffee morning next Saturday 7th December, as it has come too soon after our Christmas Bazaar.
An Electrician will be working in the Chancel of Holy Rood Church from Monday 9th – Thursday 12th December. The Chancel will therefore be out of commission for all of this time.
We need more helpers for the after-school Church Club held at the Primary School from 3.15-4.15pm on Thursdays during term time. This is always a lot of fun - for both children and helpers! You could help with any of the following - teaching, craft and games. Can you help, even occasionally? Please let the Rector know - your support would be much appreciated by everyone involved. Let's make a success of this new venture to reach out to children in the Primary School.
The Come and Praise (all-age worship) service on 12th January 2014 will be taking place, but will be a Service of the Word, not a Eucharist as previously advertised. Meet in church at 9.30am for refreshments, crafts and fun, with our informal worship following at 10am. See the posters and flyers.
We have decided to suspend the Toddler Group (first Tuesday in the month) as from now until after Easter. This is to conserve heating costs and to enable us to concentrate for the next few months on the Popp-in Computer Cafe, which is starting on 7th January 2014.
Please note that the 10.30am Come and Praise service on Sunday 15th December has been CANCELLED
As from December, the 9am service will move to 8.30am. The 11am service will move to 10.30am
A Traditional Christmas Market by the Child Okeford Flower Arranging Club, in aid of the charity ‘Smile Train,’ will be held on Saturday 7th December from 10am to 4pm in the Village Hall. Lots of ideas for the home and gifts for Christmas. To include a seasonal welcome drink.

The Rector is always happy to visit people in the Benefice, whatever the reason. Please let him know on 01258 861847 if you would like a visit.
All enquiries relating to Weddings, Baptisms and Funerals should be directed to the Rector.
The Sacrament of Penance (Confession) is available by appointment with the Rector.
Can you give a lift to someone in your parish to enable them to share in the Benefice Eucharist? There may be someone who would appreciate the offer.
